Mishell Ivon and Andrew Land have brought their diverse musical backgrounds together to create the seven-track EP Blue on Blue. This collection of songs effortlessly glides through electronic pop, chilled EDM, UK garage, ambient and cinematic sounds. Blue on Blue is a focused work that concentrates on creating a strong atmosphere and structure through the songs, rather than seeking to create a series of club-focused highlights, which is a refreshing change in the current music scene.
From song to song the EP is brought to life by the atmosphere and songwriting as opposed to relying on those big ‘club moments’. Often the vocals are delivered over ethereal backgrounds within spacious electronic landscapes. There is a real artistic depth to the entire EP.

Something that gives contributes heavily to the identity of Blue on Blue is without doubt , Grammy®-nominated vocalist, songwriter, and lyricist Mishell Ivon’s stunning vocal performances throughout the EP. With a diverse musical background incorporating funk, soul, pop, dance and cutting edge electronic music, Mishell Ivon delivers the emotive songs on Blue on Blue with an ease and humanity that is compelling to listen to. Her warmth and emotional clarity brings the songs to life without over elaborate production or vocals that would otherwise detract from the melodies and overall feel of the songs.
Multi-talented pianist, composer, and producer Andrew Land, experience and talent really shines through on Blue on Blue. His background of being a pianist and composer of ambient and electronic music brings a lot of depth and texture to the songs. A great deal of the EP is comprised of thick layers of synth, varied and subtle rhythms and well-thought out space and texture to allow for greater contrast and overall movement to the record.
What is particularly really interesting and something that stood out in Blue on Blue is the up close and personal song writing and expansive production. The record never feels over produced and the personal lyrics always pull back from getting too heavy or revealing. The various themes of nostalgia, romance, vulnerability and self discovery are all explored throughout the record in a way that encourages you to think about what is being discussed but without being overbearing.

Throughout the release, different styles are explored and Mishell and Andrew have done a great job of ensuring that the record flows even with the varying styles. At times the EP feels like a UK garage record, at others it is a mellow, chillout EDM release, while other moments are filled with an ambient, and cinematic vibe. However, throughout the seven tracks, all of these different styles are interwoven to produce a number of individual songs each with their own unique identity.
