Manchester five-piece The Guest List today release their new single ‘Mundane’ - taken from their forthcoming debut album Something Real - out August 28th.
Leaning into the grungier, heavier side of their sound, the new single channels the quiet frustrations of everyday life into a cathartic release. Built around riffs and memorable melody, it’s a track fuelled by the monotony of predictable routines and explores the bitterness that can quietly build as life's repetitive cycle begins to feel inescapable. ‘Mundane’ offers an outlet for that pent-up frustration - a huge anthem for anyone looking to shake off the dullness of the daily grind. “The main riff for this song came to me a couple years ago. I remember thinking it was the grungiest thing I had ever written’, says frontman Cai Alty. “The lyrics are about the monotony of the every day - fitting curtains, soaking dishes, etc. All things that can start to drive us mad when life becomes too predictable. The song is an outlet for pent up bitterness without telling us to rip up the script entirely.”
The band’s wave of momentum continues to build, having seen national radio support from BBC Radio 1 & 6 Music, as well as being described by Rolling Stone UK as “a thrillingly ambitious…reminiscent of Humbug-era Arctic Monkeys”, The Independent tipping the band for this year as “on course to become one of the UK’s next big guitar bands,” and Dork declaring that “2026 feels like the year that graft plus ambition turns into a breakthrough” - The Guest List are fast becoming a band to believe in.
Decamping to Bergen, Norway, to record with collaborator Matias Tellez, Something Real builds on these foundations and expands them into an emotionally rich debut, tackling everything from mental health, anxiety and male suicide to domestic violence, climate collapse and society’s growing appetite for outrage. Yet it never loses sight of the personal - balancing weighty themes with sharp songwriting, melody, and moments of vulnerability.
Formed in 2021 as school friends and music students, The Guest List first gained traction through a run of high-energy indie covers online, quickly amassing a dedicated following. But it’s their original material – socially-conscious, ambitious, and emotionally direct – that has set them apart. Having previously worked with The Coral’s James Skelly and more recently developed in Norway with Tellez, the band’s sound continues to evolve beyond their early influences, drawing comparisons to Arctic Monkeys, Radiohead, Joni Mitchell and Sam Fender while carving out something distinctly their own.
Their rise has been powered not just by streaming numbers, but by a formidable live reputation. From Glastonbury and TRNSMT, to packed headline shows across the UK, plus support slots with the likes of Blossoms, The DMAs & Inhaler, they’ve built a fanbase that cuts across scenes and demographics.
After completing some big festival performances already this summer, the band will take on their biggest tour to date for November, which includes a big headline show at London’s Scala, as well as more summer of festival dates including Reading & Leeds and their first ever outing to Japan for Summer Sonic - as well as a string of EU shows & UK in-stores.
The Guest List continue to take definitive next steps with a collection of songs bound by a shared urgency, to make sense of modern life, to connect, and above all, to say something truly honest.
