The Kiss That Took A Trip
Horror Vacui

Picture
The Kiss That Took A Trip has put out a new track that runs past the twenty-minute mark. It is a length of track that most artists would find daunting and avoid at all costs, but this project has gone back to the slower post rock approach that shaped its early work. There is no attempt to chase quick hooks or aim instant impact, in fact it purposely goes in the totally opposite direction to give us something totally immersive.

The piece shifts in small steps rather than huge, exaggerated jumps. Instead of the usual formula of quick shifts, this encourages parts of the track to fade in an hang around before moving on. To experience 'Horror Vacui' properly, you need to disconnect from the rest of the world for a while, by giving it your focus the various elements of the arrangements make total sense.

People who are into post rock will probably recognise the patience in the arrangement straight away. It has the same steady build and long form structure that the genre is known for. Listeners who usually stick with alternative rock might find it slower than what they are used to, but it still comes from a place that fits within that world.

It is a release that goes against the current push for shorter songs, and that choice gives it an edge, standing on its own terms and not interested in trying to fit in. Check it out for yourself.
