The Penumbra Incident
The Architecture of Absence
Los Angeles project The Penumbra Incident has shared a new single, The Architecture of Absence, released back in mid-August. The track is written and produced by Jason Schalow, who has been working with electronic music since the early nineties, when he first came across Tangerine Dream. Jason's curiosity and passion for music and music creation grew into three decades of study, sound design, and personal experimentation.
This new piece sits in a space shaped by trip hop but without relying on the genre’s usual sampling. Every part of the recording was built from the ground up, including the ghost like vocal layers that weave in and out of the mix. Handling the production, mixing, and mastering himself, Schalow gives the track a clear, unified shape.

The single ties into the themes of the forthcoming album The Noise Below. At the heart of the track is the idea of unrequited love, as something that leaves a permanent mark rather than a fleeting emotion. The Architecture of Absence is our right now for you to check out with Jason hinting at the larger sound world still to come.
