THE SHRUBS
Fall Behind
Houston trio The Shrubs have returned with their brand new track, 'Fall Behind', it's a song that has been in the making since 2019 and was finally dropped on 19th of September this year. That time and patience has enabled the trio to carefully craft the song in to something quite special.
The band is made up of brothers Josh and Miguel Williams alongside Sophie, a former coworker who became a key creative partner and together they wrote and recorded the song at their home studio, Flowers on the Wall, in Katy, Texas. Fall Behind started out as a rough idea from Miguel and it slowly but surely evolved into one of The Shrub's most completed pieces to date.

Fall Behind trades in the group’s usual slower, introspective sound for something more forward-moving. The guitars loop and weave with a brightness that carries through the track, while the lyrics quietly explore the messier side of letting go. That contrast, upbeat rhythm against a heavier story, gives the song a strange sense of calmness, which is no mean feat.
The recording process leaned on old analog gear, bouncing parts between reel-to-reel players and cassette decks to create an unstable, nostalgic tone. It’s not a studio trick so much as a way of working that lets them feel close to the sound.
Fall Behind is out now via Blossom Records.
