A big week in the rise of The Slates starts with a bang as the next wave indie-pop sensations share the new video for their current single ‘Try It Again’. It comes shortly before they headline the This Feeling stage at the Isle of Wight Festival this Sunday.
The tender emotions and slowburning anthemic qualities of ‘Try It Again’ highlights a more introspective side to the band. And those qualities are brought to the fore with the track’s video. It charts a young couple’s relationship: from the joy and optimism of their early days together, to growing tension, and ultimately the break-up - leaving the all too real awareness that there’s no going back to what they once had. Directed and produced by Chris McQuire, it’s a visual that brings a universally relatable narrative to guitarist Joe Briggs’ immensely personal lyrics.
Since commencing a new deal with This Feeling Records / LAB Records with ‘Watch Life Burn’ and ‘Try It Again’, The Slates have looked destined for far bigger things. Recent tastemakers support has come from Apple Music, Radio X and Amazing Radio, while their first big moments of festival season have come with rapturous receptions at This Feeling By The Sea and The Great Escape.
Beyond The Isle of Wight, The Slates touring plans for 2026 culminate with their biggest headline show to date at Leeds Beckett Student Union. In the meantime, their schedule includes a show for the Music Venue Trust’s Everywhere At Once initiative, numerous festivals including Y NOT?, Truck and Tramlines, plus a headline tour of Sweden and Norway as they build on last year’s high impact set at Viva Sounds.
