Beers With The Beekeeper
It’s not every day a song feels like the start of a story you’ve already lived, and somehow Beers With The Beekeeper, the new single from The Zangwills, manages just that. Loose, warm and full of character, it’s a track that lands with the casual comfort of a late pub conversation, where everything’s said more honestly than usual because you know you’ll never see each other again.
Hailing from the Northwest of England, The Zangwills have carved out a space of their own over the past few years. Drawing on the influence of artists like Bowie, The Strokes, and The Cure, their sound blends introspection with energy, led by Jake Vickers’ unmistakable vocal presence and built out with contributions from Ed Dowling, Adam Spence and Sam Davies. Each member brings something different to the table, and it’s that mix that gives their songs such a recognisable punch.

“Beers With The Beekeeper” began life as a simple lyric about being stung by love, literally and figuratively, and evolved into something much more textured. Using riffs originally written by drummer Adam Spence, the song took shape around the idea of late-night chats with near-strangers, the kind that happen when judgement’s out the window and all that’s left is honesty.
Recorded at Voltalab Studios in Rochdale, a space with history tied to Joy Division, OMD and The Stone Roses, the track was produced by Mark Winterburn (Plan B, The Script, 5 Seconds of Summer) and mastered by Ben Booker (David Guetta, PJ Harvey). The result is big without being bloated , just a few instruments, used exactly where they count, leaving space for the song to breathe.
The Zangwills launched the track with a hometown headline show at The Live Rooms in Chester on June 5th, capping off a strong run of gigs that included sold-out dates across the UK and a standout show at Manchester’s Band on the Wall. With a growing reputation for electric live performances and a debut album on the horizon, the band is clearly on an upward climb.
Whether you’ve spent nights having oddly profound chats with someone you’ll never meet again, or you just like your summer songs with heart and with, Beers With The Beekeeper is worth a listen.
And no, the beekeeper’s not real. But the feeling behind it? That definitely is.
