THROES NYC Find The Right Connection On ‘The Wires Out’
THROES NYC return with The Wires Out, a new EP that takes their dark, atmospheric sound further into alt-pop territory while retaining the electronic and trip-hop influences that have shaped their music.
The duo is made up of multi-instrumentalist and producer Michael Bozzo and vocalist Courtney Leo. The pair have been making music together since childhood and that connection can definitely be heard in the new record. THROES NYC cite New York's '90s and '00s music scene as an important influence, and that remains evident in their sound.
The Wires Out moves between tension, romance and nostalgia, with ‘Always, Baby’ and ‘Something Chemical’ each taking a different perspective on intimacy.

Right from the opening lyrics and keys of ‘Always, Baby’, the EP draws you into a soundscape that feels very nostalgic, with Courtney's vocals complementing the atmospheric instrumentation. Michael Bozzo builds the arrangements through layers of textured sound, adding to that nostalgic feel.
‘Always, Baby’ leads into ‘Something Chemical’, where there is a shift in mood thanks to the driving drums that give the track a stronger rhythmic edge. The bassline keeps catching your ear underneath the many layers of sound, from cymbals to vocals, while Courtney gives a consistently solid performance that helps hold the two tracks together.
THROES NYC describe their music as "altriphop", combining alternative pop, trip-hop and electronic music, and I would certainly agree with that. They have developed their sound over many years and that partnership has resulted in a record that is easy to listen to and incredibly easy to get lost in.
They have managed to bring a more melodic and pop-focused side to the project while staying true to the darker qualities of their earlier work.
