Tony Frissore
Stand for Freedom

Picture
Merging experimental hip-hop, electronic production and spoken word elements, artist and producer Tony Frissore has created and released his brand new single 'Stand for Freedom'. The track is focused on a specific moment in time, namely a moment from Ralph J. Bunche's 1949 Nobel Peace Prize address. He highlights a section of the speech that directly deals with racial injustice and responsibility.

Instead of using the familiar passages that often appear in historical features about Bunche, Frissore has centred the track on a part of the address where Bunche challenges Americans to examine the difference between national ideals and lived reality. The way the recording has been used, with full clarity within the composition allows for the original delivery to carry its own weight.
Built from electronic textures, a steady rhythmic base and minimal melodic patterns, the production really lets each individual element shine. These parts create enough space for the archival recording to fit perfectly in the mix. Frissore has explained that he chose this particular excerpt because it felt connected to current issues, even though it was delivered more than seventy-five years ago.

Ralph Bunche received the Nobel Peace Prize for his work mediating conflict in the Middle East in the late 1940s. His comments on racial inequality during the award speech are less widely quoted than the sections on diplomacy, which is one reason they stand out in this release. Tony presents the speech in a modern setting, drawing a line between the historical moment and the present day discussions around accountability and social equity.

'Stand for Freedom' is available now on major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music. Further information about the release and Frissore’s work can be found through his official channels.
