GLOBAL RECORD COMPANY OFFERS INTERNSHIP TO NEWCASTLE COLLEGE
GRADUATE TO BOOST TO NORTH EAST MUSIC SCENE
A North East graduate has embarked on a paid internship with a global record company that will help grow the North East’s music industry.
Kaitlin Robson, 21, from Newcastle will be working with Warner Music UK, which represents artists such as Coldplay, Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran, and Generator as they partner up to nurture talent in the region. Though she will be based in Newcastle, Kaitlin will spend three days every month at Warner Music UK headquarters, receiving mentorship from esteemed leaders within the music industry.
Kaitlin, who recently graduated from Newcastle College University Centre, where she studied a degree in Popular Music Performance said this is a “dream come true.” “This is an amazing opportunity, and it feels like a golden ticket moment,” said Kaitlin. “Starting my music degree was quite scary because I know it’s such a hard industry to get into, but now I get to work with people from one of the biggest music organisations in the world and find out what possibilities there are for me.”
Warner Music Group, which Warner Music UK sits under, is a leading global music company with a roster of acclaimed artists and a rich legacy spanning many decades. It is home to record labels such as Atlantic Records, Warner Records and 100 Elektra Music Group, who have helped stars like Bruno Mars, Cardi B and Zach Bryan shoot to global fame. Starting at the end of August, the four-day-per-week internship provides a fantastic opportunity for Kaitlin to kick-start her career. Promising to be an immersive experience, it will provide hands-on learning and invaluable insights into the workings of the music industry.
Kaitlin will also work alongside Generator, a well-known talent development agency based in Newcastle. Generator plays a crucial role in shaping the region’s creative landscape by offering various programmes that allow local talent to thrive. She will be tasked with supporting Generator's various programmes, participating in local talent development initiatives, attending events, and assisting with social media activations.
The opportunity comes after a difficult period for Kaitlin, who has been in the care system since she was 14 and almost dropped out of her degree so she could focus on supporting herself financially. After receiving support from Newcastle College University Centre, Kaitlin was able to graduate in July and was encouraged to apply for the internship.
Kaitlin continued: “I’ve had to fight so hard to get here but I genuinely believe in myself and am willing to work hard. I’m really grateful to the support I received from the University Centre and for this internship with Warner and Generator. I know it’s an amazing opportunity and I’m really excited to get started and make the most of it!”
Gemma Wynne, Head of Music and Performing arts at Newcastle College, said: “Being part of this great partnership with Warner Music UK and Generator represents an incredible opportunity for Kaitlin and hopefully future graduates of Newcastle College University Centre. It underscores our commitment to collaborating with industry to provide real-world
experiences that prepare our students for success after graduation.

“Most importantly, we want to ensure our students have opportunities available to them here in the North East – especially in industries such as the arts that often see many talented graduates leave the region to pursue their career. “This partnership represents a pivotal step towards realising the vision of a vibrant and sustainable music industry in the North East and I’m thrilled that one of our own graduates will play a central role thanks to this opportunity. “We could not be prouder of Kaitlin. We know she will flourish in this role, so we can’t wait to follow her journey.”
Mick Ross, Generator’s CEO, said: “After our previous partnerships with Newcastle College and Warner Music UK, partnering to provide this internship is the next exciting and logical step to continue making the North East music industry more sustainable and inclusive.
“Creating a tangible opportunity where those looking to break into the industry don’t have to leave the region while strengthening relationships in our wider community is at the heart of our mission. We’re looking forward to working with Kaitlin and helping her to grow.”
Tony Harlow, CEO, Warner Music UK, finishes: “The North East is steeped in culture and musical talent, so it’s vital the creative industries and its companies open the door to local experts and institutes like Generator and Newcastle College to find and empower the next generation of young talent. We are looking forward to welcoming Kaitlin and hope that she
will be one of many more in the future.”
