Why Ghost Moon Echo’s New Single Is an Absolute Must-Listen
Berlin based band Ghost Moon Echo have made a triumphant return with their latest single, 'Black Is the New Black', a guitar driven track that draws influence from the darker side of indie rock but it is far from a nostalgia piece, it is a track that has real gravitas.
Written and produced by frontman and guitarist Warner Poland, the track has stunning layered guitars with steady percussion and a very strong melodic core. As I said before, there are clear influences from alternative and indie recordings of the late 80s and 90s, in particular in the musical arrangement and overall vibe of the track. Warner's vocal delivery helps to give the song its distinctive identity, at times his tone reminded me of U2 frontman Bono, in particular in the larger sections of the chorus. Great stuff.
The rhythm section does a great job of keeping momentum throughout the song and that is courtesy of drummer Macellus Puhlemann and bassist Steven Ney who play together so well, creating a consistent groove that grabs your attention and doesn't let go. Add to that the stunning textures that guitarist Moritz von Herder brings to the party and the track is a sure fired winner.

Both Warner and Marcellus are also longstanding members of Nina Hagen's live band and that experience has really paid off with how this song was arranged and recorded. Warner has also worked extensively outside of the group including on Hagen's recent album 'Highway to Heaven', so you know that this is a band that have real musical heritage and a real passion for making every track sound and feel great.
With more releases and live shows planned across the coming year around Berlin, 'Black Is the New Black' is a clear statement of intent from a band that are clearly focused on building something long-term and worthwhile and this track is definitely worth your time. You can listen to it right now and don't forget to share it with other music lovers.
