William Davidoff has released his debut album, a project he has been building quietly for a number of years. Davidoff grew up in Lüneburg and spent a lot of time around Hamburg’s electronic scene, although never as a visible figure. Choosing to keep his writing process private, William developed most of his ideas away from venues and online platforms. It is a choice that has been reflected in the record, it has a very stripped back feel, managing to avoid the usual pressure to chase trends.

Building on strong electric foundations, simple synth lines and slow building rhythm work with vocals that keep things as close to the original recording as possible. There has nothing that has been smoothed over or heavily processed. The record sounds more like someone documenting where they are in life over trying to produce a glossy debut. Davidoff has spoken before about how constant online activity distracts from the actual music, and the album makes that clear. It is focused, unhurried and noticeably free from outside noise.

Several tracks stand out for how they hold their ground without overcomplicating anything. “Midnight Fever,” “Shadows I Still Follow,” and “City of Echoes” each sit in their own space, built around a small number of parts. They deal with straightforward themes: late nights, distance from home, and the practical side of starting again in an unfamiliar setting. “Running From Yesterday” and “Clockwork Heart” follow a similar path, looking at how personal routines change as life moves on.

The visual side of the release is kept to a minimum. The artwork uses simple, urban backdrops, and Davidoff stays almost completely out of the frame. There is no attempt to build a big image around the album, which matches the overall approach he has taken since the beginning.

As a first full project, the album gives a fair picture of how Davidoff sees his role as an artist. He is more interested in mood, small details and day-to-day honesty than in building a major profile. The record is now available on all main streaming platforms.
