Kimonos & Cowboy Boots - The Do's & Don'ts of Festivals Fashion & Tips
From Glastonbury to Coachella, LooseFest to Download, 2022 has been the year so far that has showcased the best music festival style in an age. The key? Combining effortless style with comfort and we mean practical comfort that looks anything but, sashaying round in a floaty kimono when the heavens open can turn your boho to ghastly in minutes. We've thrown in some insider tips to max out your experience.
Rule #1
Anything goes. No matter how daring you think you look, when you get to the music festival, there will always be a more dramatic look.
Rule #2
Glastonbury saw a strong Kimono & Cowboot style with barely a wellie boot in sight. Lesson? Upgrade your footwear, think thick chunky ankle boots or flat boots. Ditch the sandals as one drop of rain can turn the ground into a muddy mess and you don't want to feel the mud squelching through your toes.
Rule #3
Feeling fashion nervous? Take your current personal style and add in some classic festival looks. Dig out the denim shorts, wax your legs and slap on some fake tan. Pull out that boho top that is lurking at the back of the wardrobe and pick up a Kimono - go for the longest style. Put some glitter on and a flower headband and you're almost ready to go ..
Rule #4
Look for a transparent waterproof jacket. Your festival style will stay on show, but you will be feeling dry and cute. At the very least put a bin liner in your bag. Tear a hole in the top and for your arms and drop it over til the rain stops. DON'T take an umbrella, you will be blocking someone's view and that's never great.
Rule #5
Posh toilets. Look for festivals that have decent or even 'posh loos'. Ask anyone who has attended a festival or large event, what was the least enjoyable aspect and the same answer if given every time. The toilets. This can be an extra cost, but definitely worth it.
Rule #6
"Fringe" was everywhere on the runway this season. A fringed cross body bag or fringed boots will immediately give that festival vibe. Just watch out for cheap cotton fringing on that kimono, all tangled up and snagged is NOT a good look.
Rule #6 (the practical one)
Take a bum bag - you can have a crossbody bag too, but this is the best way to keep your money, cards and phone safe. Write down your friends numbers in case your phone dies.

Rule #7
Bikini tops are not just for the beach. Swap your bra for a bikini top, top it with a cute cut-up T shirt and wear under denim dungarees or shorts. Super comfy and cute.
Rule #8
Double denim is back! Denim jackets are practical, keep the chill off your shoulders or tie round your waist.
Rule #9
Have a buddy system to make sure you all stay safe. Think about places to meet if your phone battery dies, you lose your friends or have no signal.
Rule #10
Slap on the sunscreen. Don't let your lasting memory of the music festival be sunstroke.
Rule #11
Most music festivals have an early bird rate, book your tickets then. Follow them on social media as its the most likely place that they will share deals.
Rule #12
Hydration is really important, even if you drink water in-between alcoholic drinks. Think about a compact waterproof (see rule #4). Loads of styles to choose from & if all else fails pack some bin bags (this can double up to take your rubbish with you), Pack a snack, a protein bar, baby wipes, tissues and flip flops.

Look for the music festival that gives the best experience and don't be put off by music you don't recognise, it's a chance to see what's out there."
