When it comes to iconic names in the realm of indie-brit rock, few are more iconic than Cast. A band that saw a meteoric rise to prominence in the mid-90s with their debut album All Change, cementing their place in the hearts and minds of their growing fanbase.
Now, some 30+ years later, Cast is back with a brand new studio album, Love Is The Call. This is the band's first album since 2017 and is something that has been highly anticipated in the music scene since its announcement.
The album starts off with the glorious acoustic track 'Bluebird', which shows off just how powerful and strong John Power's voice is. This is a great start to this new chapter in the band's story.
There have been three singles released from the album so far: 'Love You Like I Do', the title track 'Love Is The Call', and 'Faraway'. The tracks are all stunning, and it is obvious why they were chosen as singles; however, the album is full of musical gems. From 'Forever and a Day' with its luciously deep bassline to the incredibly catchy hook of 'Rain That Falls', Cast have clearly spent a lot of time crafting these tracks, and that work has paid off big time.
The anthemic 'Starry Eyes' is a killer song that will be sure to have the crowd singing along when played live. A track I found myself listening to over and over is 'Look Around' with an upbeat catchy hook that is at odds with the subject of the track, which talks about "how it feels to be hurt by the one you love." It's a real earworm.
With an air of nostalgia about it that gives it a real depth that is truly endearing, 'Time Is Like A River' is, in my opinion, a timeless classic. Ending the album, Cast treats us to 'Tomorrow Calls My Name', a track whose chorus is hauntingly emotional with subtle guitar work that is sublime.
This is a record that has clearly been thought about and put together with great care and attention to detail, showcasing the superb songwriting talent that saw the band's initial impact on the music world still going strong today. This is a really great album. Released on 16th of February it is available to preorder right now.
