DEAD MAN'S WHISKEY
IN THE STORM
Reviewer David Weddle
London heavy rockers Dead Man's Whiskey are back with their second studio album, 'In The Storm'. The album, produced by music industry heavy hitters Chris Clancy and Colin Richardson, is due for release on September 29th.
Starting with a stunning intro, which builds a relaxing atmosphere with glorious acoustic guitar work, it cleanses the ears for what is about to come.
The first full track on the album, 'Masquerade', is a heavy-as-you like track that allows guitarist Billy Kons to show off his guitar skills, backed by a solid drum beat that keeps the song flowing.
If you think that's as heavy as it gets, then think again, my friend, as the five pieces are just getting started. The opening to 'Raven's Call' has a bass that hits hard and gives the song its incredible depth. There are some really memorable moments in the album, like the way that frontman Nico Rogers is capable of such vocal diversity, switching from heavy metal-style singing one moment to Eddie Vedder-esque vocals in 'Who I Am'.

There is an incredible amount of talent in this band, from the rhythm section that brings a groove to the album to the stunning riffs and licks that are carefully interwoven into the fabric of each track.
Dead Man's Whiskey is definitely not a one-trick pony. Yes, they play hard and heavy with tracks like 'Island in the Storm' with its very metal guitars, but they can also write and play glorious ballads like the epic 'Closet To You' which feels like a classic 80's hair metal power ballad and it is truly awesome.
The lads turn the amps all the way back up to 11 on the last two tracks, 'Time' and 'Fear Is Cold', which top off the album in style. Dead Man's Whiskey are an exciting band that have clearly made an impact on the music scene with their previous release, having embarked on a sold-out UK tour earlier this year, and they have built on that impact and really delivered an album that feels very much like an instant classic.
I really highly recommend it.
