THE WILD THINGS
FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS EP
Reviewer - David Weddle
For most bands putting out an EP, it would be a dream come true to work with one icon of the music business, but The Wild Things have taken things a step further than that.
Their brand new EP, 'Friends With Benefits' features three incredible household names. Kicking off the EP with 'Breaking Madonna', we are introduced to KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer, whom the band became friends with as they opened up proceedings on the recent KISS - End Of The Road UK tour. The song has a lusciously heavy groove that draws you in and keeps you focused, while Sydney Rae White's powerful and distinctive vocals add that special something that only The Wild Things can give you. From the main riff to the hard hitting drums and a rather epic guitar solo, this is a rock song that has it all. The song ends abruptly, leaving you wanting more, which I thought was pretty cool.

Switching the tempo, 'RED SIDE OF THE MOON, featuring Trixie Mattel'. Starting with stunning acoustic guitar work and folk-esque vocals, the song shows off the band's strong story-telling ability. And with gorgeous vocal harmonies, the song is a total delight when you have your earphones on and the volume cranked up. There is an emotional side to the song, but with toe tapability and a country vibe, 'Red Side of the Moon' is one of those songs that sticks in your head for all the right reasons.
Track three sees The Wild Things cover a disco classic: ABBA's 'Does Your Mother Know? A song that we all know has been given a rock twist. Keeping a feel of the original, The Wild Things unique style adds an edginess that I didn't know the song needed, but I'm grateful that it's been given The Wild Things treatment. It is still just as fun as the ABBA version and so much more.
Finishing the EP in style with a track featuring Pete Townshend of The Who, 'Only Attraction' is a real rock banger that fans of The Wild Things will be familiar with, and those hearing it for the first time are in for a real treat. The song is the first track I heard from the band and is still one I listen to regularly, so this is a great choice for the EP.
Yes, the EP features some big names, but that is certainly not a superficial thing; they all add something to the tracks they play on. The record has real substance to it and is a great example of just how talented this band is. 'Friends With Benefits' is a cracking EP, go check it out wherever you stream your music.
