Who is Voidchaser?
The band is composed of Chad Bernatchez (vocals, rhythm guitar, back vocals), Jeffrey Lehberg (lead guitar), Jici LG (bass, synth, back vocals), and Andre Ouellette (drums).
Is there a story behind the band name?
Chad was playing a lot of Divinity Original Sin 2 and he thought the Voidwoken were pretty cool monsters, hence the name Voidchaser. That would makes us Voidwoken Chasers.
Your latest track, 'Tyrant' does a great job of showcasing your sound, what was the inspiration behind the track?
Tyrant was the first song on the EP we produced, and it was really the song that allowed us to do the most trial and error and explore sounds and ideas, until we found our own musical style. We think we've managed to produce something that will make fans of the old Opeth or Dethklok fans smile, while remaining something unique to Voidchaser. Lyrically, it was really inspired by the idea of what a global dictatorship of secret societies would be like. And like the rest of the EP, it's set in a science-fiction universe.
Everyone has individual musical inspirations but is there one band or artist that Voidchaser as a whole take inspiration from?
It's really an amalgamation of music that we like. As mentioned earlier, Opeth and Dethklok are big ones. Dream Theater, Haken, Ashbreather are others that we draw inspiration from to name a few.
Is there a dream venue, festival or artist that you would like to perform at or with?
Anywhere, anytime and anything with Devin Townsend.
What are your plans for 2024?
With Chad moving to Sweden our primary focus is going to be producing our next album, with a single between then and now, as well as try play some shows in Europe!
