LIVE REVIEW
HANNAH WICKLUND
NEWCASTLE - aNARCHY BREWERY
1ST OF JUNE 2024
Review and photos: David Weddle
Last night, Newcastle's Anarchy Brewery played host to one of the most exciting acts on the music scene at the moment. Not only is Hannah Wicklund a renowned singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist but also a visual artist, with her own artwork featured on the cover of her latest album, 'The Prize'.
With so much going for her, it is no wonder that dedicated fans made the journey to Anarchy Brewery on the outskirts of Newcastle to hear Hannah perform songs both new and old. With support from Bristol-based indie rock outfit Hunny Buzz Newcastle, we were in for a night to remember.

Opening a show is never easy but Hunny Buzz put everything into the show and were totally unphased by a handful of technical issues, which could easily have taken the shine off the performance, but were handled with humour and style by the rising stars. They are definitely ones to watch, as they continue to build up a solid fanbase with each high-energy live performance. The atmosphere in the venue was very laid-back, and everyone seemed to be having a great night. After a short interval, Hannah and her band made their way to the stage.
Opening up with the tour's namesake, 'Hell in the Hallway', it was clear from the outset that Hannah was in good voice. The stage was fairly intimate, and a barefoot Hannah filled the space with epic guitar work and stunning vocals from the get-go.

The crowd were loving every moment and it did feel very much like we were all part of something more than just another show. Hannah's powerful vocals and intense guitar playing was captivating and the charismatic singer really gave the Newcastle crowd a fantastic show with 'Witness' being one of many highlights from the night.
Hannah's music career has been on an upward trajectory, and if the Newcastle show is anything to go by, I can't see that taking a turn any time soon. If you ever get the chance to see Hannah Wicklund live, you should definitely take the opportunity; you won't regret it.
