It may have been cold and wet outside, but inside the Newcastle University Student's Union, things were hotting up. Crowds descended upon the venue to catch one of Liverpool's finest, Stone, as they brought their show to town.
With support from Darlington artist Viia and Tough Cookie, the night was shaping up to be a good one. The doors had only been open for half an hour when Viia took to the stage, but the floor was already filling up. The lucky ones who arrived early were treated to an awesome show from Viia, who put everything into rocking the place. A truly impressive performance, which definitely woke me up, that's for sure.
Up next, Tough Cookie. With a short but sweet support slot, they played their hearts out and connected with the audience, for sure. With their own unique style, Tough Cookie does a cracking job of getting the audience ready for the headliners, despite a slight technical issue with the guitar causing a bit of a Coffuffle for a moment or two—something that was handled well and is one of those little moments that gives the show an extra bit of personality. Half the band going crowd surfing helped add a bit extra to the night for those in the crowd.

Soon it was time for the main event. As the crowd sang along to the music playing over the PA, you could feel the excitement building in the room. When the stage lit up and Stone made their way onstage, that excited tension broke, and the crowd went crackers.
The band was very tight, and each member seemed to be having a great time, as did the audience, with one fan throwing their bra onstage at one point. The band's energy is explosive and impossible to ignore. The lyrics of each track were sung with passion and integrity by vocalist Fin Power. There is something really great about hearing strong regional accents in music, it brings a unique edge that just can't be faked. Liverpool is a region renowned for salt-of-the earth people, something it shares with the North East, so there was already a real affinity between the band and fans, which felt very special.
As the band pounded out their own brand of post punk goodness, the crowd was with them all the way, singing at the top of their voices. Stone played an extensive set, kicking off with 'Let It Go' and finishing with 'Money'. Stone weren't quite ready to finish, despite having rocked out for a lengthy fifteen songs, including fan favourite 'I Gotta Feeling'. They somehow had enough energy left to give the crowd a two-song encore, finishing with 'Leave It Out'.
Incredible energy, massive smiles, and stunning vocals made for a show that is going to be difficult to top. What a night!!
