MAMA OH NO
TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM
Mamasaurus
Norfolk-based “Mama Oh No” will release their debut album Mamasaurus on hmv’s 1921 Records on vinyl on 27th October.
Mama Oh No is a four-piece British and Danish “fuzzy R&B and soul band”. They formed in 2019 and have been described as having a “dark, haunting and cinematic sound filled with raw, emotive bluesy vocals” by Kitty Perrin of BBC Introducing.
Their record has been influenced by the sounds of both soul and surf, resulting in a unique space-age sound reminiscent of early experimental electronic music.
It is available now for pre-order at hmv.com and in all hmv and Fopp stores.
Following a nationwide search for as-yet unsigned talent, Mama Oh No were signed to hmv’s 1921 Records following a performance in hmv’s Norwich shop as part of the music retailer’s hmv Live & Local & #hmvonwax programme, ultimately selected from over 70 acts that were nominated.
Phil Halliday, Managing Director, hmv, said:
“The launch of 1921 Records last year was a huge success.
We’re proud of our label and want to continue giving local artists creating incredible music a nationwide platform to make their mark. Mama Oh No’s music is special.
We’re thrilled to make them our second signing to 1921 Records and can’t wait to get their fantastic album into the homes of music fans across the country.”

1921 Records launched in October last year with India Arkin’s Home Truths – which saw the Newcastle University student receive rave reviews, perform on BBC Music Introducing and has secure dozens of gigs and festival slots over the summer.
The label’s name harks back to HMV’s roots, with 1921 being the year that The Gramophone Company opened His Master’s Voice on London’s Oxford Street. The retailer is set to make a famous return to the street later this year, taking up its original flagship at number 363.
