NightNight—the electronic/alternative project from Yasmin Maryam Haddad--draws influence from her predecessors such as Massive Attack, Garbage, Depeche Mode and Bat for Lashes using a combination of analog synths, cutting edge technology and live instrumentation. Today, NightNight (aka Yasmin Maryam Haddad) returns with her latest singles “On His Mind – John Fryer Remix’ and ‘Maybe It’s Too late – Void Vision remix,”. Yasmin notes ”When I was presented with the opportunity to work with John Fryer on a remix, I immediately jumped on it. I have always been a huge fan of his work with This Mortal Coil as well as his collaborations with other artists, so I was honored to have the chance. During our first conversation, he asked what type of remix I was looking for.. what I was hoping he would do. I replied that I would be happy with whatever he heard in his head. Whatever he wanted it to be.
At first, he was hesitant because people have said things like this in the past - maybe not truly wanting to relinquish control. I assured him and I loved his work and trusted his vision. He chose “On His Mind” as the song he felt most drawn to and I can only say that it ended up being better than anything I could have asked for. You can still hear the feeling of fear and struggle from the original version, but now compounded with cinematic, spacious reinvention John brought to the song. The sounds and construction John used made me see miniature films in my head every time I listened to the mix, which is why it felt natural to have Jeremy Cimino step in the translate it into a Spatial Audio mix. I am most definitely biased, but I truly feel it is one of the best uses of Spatial Audio I have yet heard”. Also “Shari Vari is a dear friend and inspiration to me. Void Vision is a project that is uncompromising.
She’s a fantastic songwriter, singer and musician - anyone who has seen her play live knows this. We first started working together when I was asked to play Wave-Gotik-Treffen and Plage Noire festivals in Germany during 2022. I really didn’t want to play them alone and I asked if Shari would be interested in playing in NightNight as duo for the performances. We had an amazing time working together, even traveling internationally with equipment through the highest of COVID restrictions. We knew we had to keep working together. For the shows, Shari had suggested remixing her favorite NightNight track, “Maybe It’s Too Late”. Her instinct was to increase the speed, add in some more textures and make it an overall more danceable track. Her remix is such a natural translation - a mix that could only have been done by someone who knows me and the music well”. The remix project ‘Transitions I’ is due on March 31 from Nightnight featuring remixes of tracks on the ‘Love, Decayed’ album from Aesthetic Perfection, Bob Frost, John Fryer, Void Vision, Klack and Filth is Eternal.
