IN REVIEW
Pale Wizard Records, labour of love for its co-founders Tim Hilleard and Dan Flitcroft, have done it again, after the success of their previous "Fifty Years Later" series which has seen them reimagine classic albums from Alice Cooper's "Killer" and David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust", they are back with their recreation of the Budgie album, "Never Turn Your Back On A Friend".
And album that made waves when it was released back in 1973 influencing the likes of rock and heavy metal legends, Iron Maiden, Metallica and Van Halen, all of whom have covered Budgie's music.
Pale Wizard have brought together a plethora of musical talent to put their own spin on the original.
With bands like Sergeant Thunderhoof, Great Electric Quest, Firegarden to name just a few all featuring on the album. The lead single "Breadfan" sees Alunah put their own stamp on the classic track with superb results.

The album is carefully curated and the quality of each band's interpretation of the original music is just superb. Hearing the songs that were originally recorded in the early seventies being reimagined in 2023 and still sounding just as amazing and relevant today is something that should make any rock or music fan's heart proud.
As well as the seven original album tracks, Pale Wizard Records added a little treat for the ears with three additional tracks recorded by La Chinga, Low Voltage and Solar Sons. The album may be fifty years old but in this interpretation it sounds fresh and as relevant as it ever was. A contemporary take on a classic doesn't always work, but in this case it works so well. The track is a delight to listen to.
Pale Wizard Records' 50 Years Later series 'Budgie: Never Turn Your Back On A Friend' is due out on June 30th 2023. Find out more at Pale Wizard's website http://www.palewizard.co.uk/
