"love me"
Reviewer -David Weddle
Oregon alt-pop trio We Three are back with their fourth album, "Love Me". The siblings, Manny, Bethany, and Joshua Humlie, have built a huge global following since their 2018 appearance on America's Got Talent, which propelled them into the homes of millions of people. They have used that initial platform to develop and grow their audience. Releasing their debut album "We Three" in 2018, and they haven't looked back.
The band has become known for tackling sensitive issues from mental health to substance abuse, and "Love Me," takes that baton and runs with it. From the very start, We Three hold no punches, the opening track "Hell As Well", sheds a light on abuse, oppression of women in the church. Be in no doubt that the hard-hitting lyrics are intentionally thought-provoking. With the band giving an open and honest reflection of the situation unfortunately still faced by so many people. The song has already achieved success, with over 2.5 million streams on TikTok.
We Three are not afraid to discuss difficult subjects, such as in the track "If I Loved A Boy", born from the real life experiences that Manny encountered while growing up. "Love Me in a Circle" is the perfect pop track with great vocals and stunning instrumentals. The song is essentially a classic love song that will have you singing along to the infectious, toe tapping tune.
Onto "Bad Ass Bitch" which is unlikely to ever get mainstream radio time thanks to its lyrics, but who cares? This is definitely one of my favourite tracks on the album, the hook got me well and truly hooked the first time and hasn't let go.
"Love Me" is packed full of emotional highs and lows with sometimes hard-to-hear messages that will make people stop and think twice about the way we treat people, as well as bring awareness to the harrowing lived experiences of the more vulnerable in society. This, along with catchy tunes, great vocals, and quality songwriting, takes "Love Me" to a higher level than your standard pop album.
The album is a prime example of how something magical seems to happen when siblings get together to make music. The Bee Gees, The Jacksons, Hanson, The Nolans, to name just a few, and now We Three. A trio that is sure to continue on the upward trajectory to continued success.
A standout piece of work that definitely warrants a place on your playlists.
