Australian-Indian vocalist and songwriting powerhouse, ASHWARYA shares her latest single and accompanying video, “Enough” ahead of her forthcoming EP, Why’s It Gotta Hurt – out Friday, September 29.

After the EP’s previous single, “Up In My Head” received widespread support and adoration from fans and critics alike, Melbourne-based ASHWARYA continues to dive deeper in an exploration of her musicality and knack for delivering emotional vulnerability in song. To explore one of humankinds’ most raw and sincere themes of worthiness, “Enough” brings a palpable melancholy via rippled synths, brooding production and wispy vocals as ASHWARYA laments a past relationship.

Accompanying the single is the surreal motion picture of ASHWARYA inside a moving telephone booth. Never afraid to lock eyes with the camera, ASHWARYA shifts between a deadpan stare and visible signs of emotional anguish and disappointment as she sings into the phone’s mouthpiece.

ASHWARYA says on “Enough”: “I’ve always wanted ‘Enough’ to be the visual and sonic sequel to ‘Up In My Head’. It was important for me to continue to carve out the world I'm building and simultaneously contrast ‘Up In My Head’ with a more fragile side to the song writing and vision for my upcoming EP Why’s It Gotta Hurt. I’ve always liked the idea of contrasting tracks and visuals whilst still retaining the story and allowing every aspect of the project to connect in one way or another, hence the little easter egg at the end of ‘Up In My Head’ that leads into ‘Enough’, both visually and sonically.”

After most recently performing at the National Gallery of Victoria and fronting a JD Sports x Adidas campaign, ASHWARYA launches her artistry to new heights with her next project, Why’s It Gotta Hurt. An EP that explores the edges of R&B, progressive pop and electronic, emotions teeter at great heights as Why’s It Gotta Hurt retains ASHWARYA’s power-packed vocals and hypnotic approach to production. An exploration of longing, desire, mania and introspection, Why’s It Gotta Hurt is cyclical whirlpool of emotions that serve as a self-reflective mapping of ASHWARYA’s inner journey - both with herself and the people are her. Brought to life with an all-star team of young creatives - including some of her best friends - Why’s It Gotta Hurt is a universe that sees ASHWARYA deliver vulnerable honesty, whilst unveiling her prismatic multitudes against glimmering sonic and visual landscapes.

Cutting through with hyper-stylized cinematic components for her art, ASHWARYA’s unapologetically raw lyrical messages laced with the rising talent’s natural fashion nous and creative mind have been captivating audiences since the off-kilter synth beats of “PSYCHO HOLE”.

Breaking onto the scene with well-received gems like “BIRYANI”, “FLARE” and the collaborative track “To The Night” with US rapper Vic Mensa, ASHWARYA’s recent UKG-infused rework of her R&B laced hit “Best Friend” proves her genre-defying capabilities – fusing pop-minded melodies with electronic samples, unconventional arrangements, organic percussion and traditional Indian instrumentation to find a sound uniquely her own.

With career milestones including support slots for the likes of Dua Lipa and Broods, ASHWARYA has earned mass critical attention from the likes of Vogue Australia, Vogue India, i-D, ELLE, The Guardian, NME, Dork, Wonderland and Hypebeast – and the excitement is sure to continue building around ASHWARYA with the upcoming release of her new project Why’s It Gotta Hurt.

As ASHWARYA prepares to unveil her latest body of work, enjoy the wait by diving into the sounds and visuals of “Enough” from one of the international pop scene’s most exciting new prospects.
