Music News MonthlyNews, Reviews and Interviews RETURN WITH SNAPPY NEW SINGLE 'OFF THE RAILS' LISTEN HERE / WATCH HERE OUT NOW VIA MODERN SKY DEBUT LONDON HEADLINE SHOW ON SALE NOW! PLUS SNAYX SUPPORT TOUR THIS AUTUMN Shelf Lives have returned with snappy new single 'Off The Rails' - listen here / watch here. An ode to the modern day mindset hooked on capitalism despite being fully aware of its consequences, the song's sonic footprints are frenzied and frantic, bursting with a palpable energy as it showcases persistent earworm qualities that will keep your finger firmly placed on the repeat button. Speaking about the track in more detail, the duo explain, "In our current era, we stand fully aware that consumerism fails to fulfil our genuine needs. Despite this knowledge, we remain fiercely hooked, unable to let go. The notion that was intended to make us feel exceptional actually leaves us feeling ordinary and in this perpetual cycle of wanting more. The track is that moment of realisation that we can’t 'fall off the rails' because despite all of the “stuff” we buy into we’re still 'none in a million' The problem is we hesitate to be the first to abandon the obsession in fear that we’ll be the only one and end up feeling isolated anyway." The new single follows on from a whirlwind few months for the scintillating London-based electro-punk duo who have recently played to packed out rooms at The Great Escape Festival, FOCUS Wales and Liverpool Sound City, as well as two storming sets at this year's Glastonbury Festival. Later this year the band will play their debut headline show at Sebright Arms in London on 26th October, with tickets available here. Ahead of the show, the pair will also be joining Snayx on their extensive UK tour this autumn - a full list of live dates can be found below. Though Shelf Lives have only been a band since the end of 2021, the exhilarating duo have already built up a list of impressive wins, from playing at Glastonbury to supporting Skunk Anansie on a full EU/UK tour, and performing at shows alongside THUMPER, Skating Polly, Dream Nails, Nuha Ruby Ra, Panic Shack and Sick Joy, as well as being announced as recipients of PRS Foundation's Open Fund for Music Creators. Recently crowned as a band 'About To Break' by Upset Magazine, they released their first mini-album ‘Yes, offence’ – a danceable outburst of dissonant guitar riffs, jackhammer beats and black comedic lyrics - in 2022, and have continued to nurture an ever-growing fanbase with more recent singles ‘Skirts & Salads’, ‘Bite’ and ‘All Of The Problems’. Coming together from Toronto and Northampton respectively, but now London-based, Shelf Lives comprises of vocalist Sabrina Di Giulio and guitarist/producer Jonny Hillyard. On the face of it, the band make catchy, energetic pop songs that bring the abrasiveness and physicality of punk back to a small, cramped house party setting. It’s music so rowdy you can practically feel the sweat on the ceiling and the sound of crushed cans under your feet, and it’s won over scores of praise from the likes of NME, Dork, DIY, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash and Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1 and many more. Pairing hardcore punk’s brief blasts of energy with electroclash’s minimal and sleazy sonics, they raise themes of societal collapse and hyper-consumerism with a warped smile. The result taps into headspace that’s as rotten as it is dopamine-flooded, with pent-up frustration and pop hooks tossed together in a way that makes, in their own words, “the fucked up seem fun.” 'Off The Rails' is available to stream now.
