Soulful South Londoner Eliza Oakes makes a stunning return to the ether with “Heaven In Your Eyes” – which she shares as the official first slice of her forthcoming new EP.
A song birthed out of a deep need for hope in a time that feels uncertain, “Heaven In Your Eyes” is written and arranged by Eliza with additional production from Snow Poet’s Chris Hyson.
Brought to life by the production’s live instrumentation of gritty string arrangements, shuffling drums and smoky piano chords, Eliza’s soaring vocals take centre stage on the evocative track to deliver a heartfelt message of comfort to anyone feeling lost or trying to realise their visions – coming through as another poignant offering laced with Eliza’s innate talent and authenticity.
Speaking on “Heaven In Your Eyes”, Eliza Oakes said the following: “Lyrically, it’s a direct call to creatives and community in an industry that’s focused on its algorithms and numbers, to trust your own voice, intention and sense of belonging. It’s an attempt to ignite our own ‘inner guide’, and discover an intrinsic intuition and purpose. Drawing on personal themes of spirituality, optimism, self-worth and empowerment, it’s a continuing message to my past, present and future self.”
With a melting pot of inspiration from Minnie Riperton to Jessie Ware and Cleo Sol, Eliza Oakes is the burgeoning South Londoner setting the underground scene alight with her impeccable vocal range and eclectic sounds inspired by the city she grew up in.
Having released her self-produced debut EP An Intuition in 2021, truth and originality remain at the forefront of Eliza’s exploration of her vocal and musical identity. Critical attention for her work has already come from the likes of CLASH Magazine, as well as radio co-signs across Worldwide FM, Soho Radio and Hoxton Radio.
Meanwhile, Eliza’s live performances and dazzling vocal prowess have seen underground buzz begin to form, already gracing notable venues including London’s Omeara, Windmill Brixton and Pizza Express Live Soho – and Eliza will next take to the stage on September 14th at her biggest headline show to date at London’s prestigious St Pancras Old Church, where her truly divine vocals are sure to exceed fan’s expectations within the venue’s transcendent settings. Tickets are available here.
Selling out her first EP launch gig at Bermondsey Social Club, Eliza has continued to showcase her remarkable breadth of talent by making vocal appearances at Earth Hackney performing with Black Country New Road, alongside further performances as a jazz artist at Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Café and Bricklane Jazz Festival.
With her new body of work on the horizon, the multi-faceted Eliza Oakes looks set to develop her reputation as one of the most naturally gifted new voices in the landscape – in the meantime, enjoy the wait for Eliza’s next EP with the sublime “Heaven In Your Eyes”.
