Music News MonthlyNews, Reviews and Interviews After emerging as a sought-after force behind-the-scenes for the likes of Anitta and Normani, South London’s Absolutely introduces herself as the genre-smashing rebel music has been waiting for via her debut single “Higher” on Epic Records / Black Butter Records. www.instagram.com/the.absolutely Produced by Dave Hamelin [Beyoncé, 070 Shake], the thumping drums on “Higher” drives Absolutely’s fluttering vocals through ethereal loops and percussive keys as she declares “I don’t have to keep my feet on the ground” – while showing off her fresh, melodic writing style and clever lyrical flow. Accompanied by a stellar music video, the spectacular visuals see Absolutely elevated through breath-taking environments and eventually blasted off into space – transporting viewers into her world where her creative bounds know no limits as a dynamic and disruptive artistic visionary. Born Abby Keen to a Swiss-Ghanaian mother and British father in South London, she was surrounded by music as a kid and grew up listening to gospel, singing in church on Sundays, and duetting with family on holidays. At the same time, her producer dad also kept a studio in the house, encouraging his daughters to find their respective voices. Initially introducing herself on a series of self-produced independent EPs throughout 2019, Absolutely soon attracted the attention of S10 Publishing in partnership with BMG at the top of 2020. Immediately, she dove headfirst into songwriting, emerging as a sought-after collaborator with a sharp pen. She notably co-wrote “Fair” for Normani, “Get Together” for David Guetta, and “Faking Love” [feat. Saweetie], “Gimme Your Number” [with Ty Dolla $ign], “Gata” [feat. Chencho Corleone], and “Maria Elegante” [feat. Afro B] for Anitta’s multiplatinum global blockbuster Versions of Me, in addition to “Sueltate” from Sing 2 – as well as previously being in the studio alongside the likes of Rihanna, Ryan Tedder, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and more. Eventually, Absolutely linked with producer Dave Hamelin, finding a collaborator and kindred spirit. Spinning R&B-inflected pop through a prism of alternative adventurousness and extra-terrestrial future-facing perception, she asserts herself as a sonic outlier on a series of upcoming releases for Epic Records / Black Butter Records. With “Higher” introducing Absolutely as a remarkably talented creative powerhouse, her official introduction to the scene is not one to be missed – stay tuned for plenty more this year from this star-in-the-making. |
