Music News MonthlyNews, Reviews and Interviews The Final Clause Of Tacitus release fourth EP 'The Oxygen Is Killing You' Reading-based funk-rock four-piece The Final Clause of Tacitus released their fourth EP ‘The Oxygen Is Killing You’ on Friday, June 23rd 2023. The Final Clause of Tacitus have been mixing up their own brand of funk, rock and groove-heavy riffs since their formation in 2016, which has seen the band go on to share the stage with the likes of Hactivist, We Are Scientists, (Hed) P.E., Electric Six and Crazy Town and supported by publications such as Kerrang! Magazine, Stereoboard and Louder Than War. With collaborations with (Hed) P.E. and Hactivist’s Jot Maxi under their belts, The Final Clause of Tacitus are gearing up for their first European tour and a summer full of festivals alongside the release of their upcoming EP The Oxygen Is Killing You. The self-recorded and produced EP is a masterclass in musical shapeshifting. Massively influenced by old school 90’s skate hip hop music, the band mix groove-laden basslines, funky riffs, metal breakdowns and rap vocals with the odd skate-punk shout along thrown in for good measure. Discussing their lyrical inspirations behind the EP, the band state: “Lyrically, it explores the idea that oxygen, the very thing that’s keeping you alive is simultaneously killing you. What you breathe in is what causes you to age, what causes you to slowly decay and eventually die. This can also be applied to some relationships in your life. The one thing you love about someone can be the very thing that is destroying you.” Ahead of the release of the EP came its leading single ‘Everybody Makes Mistakes, I Create Disasters’ on June 9th. “This song is a self-declaration and acceptance that I mess up sometimes and that I’m far from perfect, but this is me and what you see is what you get,” explains lyricist and vocalist Matt Dunne.
