2022 round up

Picture
As 2022 draws to a close and we look to the bright lights of 2023 that shine their perpetual wishes of hope and happiness, they will inevitably dull as the festive period ends. Fear not though, as all is not lost, 2022 has given us a lot to be happy about, and 2023 promises a lot to be excited about.

The live music circuit found its feet once again this year, with bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Anthrax all heading back out on their anniversary tours after the COVID delays. And with festivals like Hardwick, LooseFest, Meadowlands, and more bringing a slice of joy to the masses, 2022 really has given us many treats and a lot to be hopeful for.

The controversial reunion of Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo, taking the name and songs of Pantera back on the road with the help of Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante, certainly got a lot of people talking about metal music again. Whatever your stance, it is undoubtedly a positive thing to give a younger audience the chance to hear their iconic tracks played live.

Along with the legends of the music industry making waves, there has been a wealth of new talent taking to the stage this year. The Wits, who we were lucky enough to review earlier in the year have just played the renowned venue King Tut's. Craig Gould released his debut album 'Captain of the Seas' and soon after became an ambassador for Tanglewood guitars.

We have been lucky enough to check out live performances from The Stranglers, Saxon, Skunk Anansie, The Cadillac Three, Anthrax, Skid Row, Paul Weller,  Black Eyed Peas and many, many more. An epic year for shows.
The Mary Wallopers continue to make waves; they recently completed an extensive tour, and with another set for 2023, they show no sign of slowing down. Kiss are set to visit the UK for the final time as a band in 2023, and Ozzy Osbourne will be visiting our shores once more on his No More Tours 2 tour. And the local music scene is positively buzzing, with musicians and bands making the most of the opportunity to play to a live audience once again.

We have seen so many new artists on the music scene from all genres that it is impossible to mention them all. Nevertheless, it is clear that music is in safe hands, and the coming year is set to be a great one. Self released music is quickly becoming the norm, and we are seeing a definite increase in self released titles crossing our desk. A sign that 2023 will be an interesting year for music that would otherwise go unheard.
Here are a few names to look out for next year.
